In this quote, Rodriguez emphasizes the idea that learning a second language can open up new ways of understanding and perceiving the world. He says being bilingual can enrich one's life and provide a deeper connection/ understanding of different cultures and perspectives. 

"I am a writer who is trying to understand the story of his own life"


He is acknowledging that his journey of a writer in intertwined with his exploration of his own life story. He sees his writing as self discovery and a form of self reflection. He used language in sentences to construct his narrative.

He is exmpkasizing how he rarely talks to spanish children. This quote points to the internal conflict about how he feels about his culture and linguistic heritage.

    I like the first quote you shared. I think that Rodriguez is trying to promote cultural inclusion. Being bilingual does open up new perspectives, and uses both sides of the brain. Having this skill makes us more intelligent.

    I like how you recognize his personal exploration and desire to learn and grow. I became wrapped up in the sadness of loss of family conversation and did not look at the author's journey. Thank you for sharing!

    The second quote that you gave is really powerful when reading the text. The reader can really see how Rodriguez is self reflecting on these major issues that shaped his life. You can feel how much he misses those memories he shared speaking Spanish with his family.

 Isabella D'Arezzo Blog #2 We're in Trouble When I reflect on this text I see a world fallen far from where we began. As we may have gotten smarter in technology and more confident within, we still struggle as a society socially. There is so much to learn in this world, and there are so many social systems that are strongly affecting our community/society. This text's main talk is privilege in this world.
