We're in Trouble
When I reflect on this text I see a world fallen far from where we began. As we may have gotten smarter in technology and more confident within, we still struggle as a society socially. There is so much to learn in this world, and there are so many social systems that are strongly affecting our community/society. This text's main talk is privilege in this world. Talking about privilege and power isn't always easy because in this generation it's an argument not a debate, and that's sad. We aren't even able to come together as a community anymore and share are true real feelings without most likely being judged or harassed by somebody else. I am not going against the fact of there being privilege in the world but I will say it depends on your personal situation and the environment you were brought up in.You can't change your race so why not accept people for who they are? Everyone is different with their own unique look and personalities and we all act and react differently in situations and people need to be more open to seeing the different privileges we have as people.
We as a society need to learn how to use the proper use of words in certain situations to all get along better as a community. We don't need to love or even like each other but we should be able to work together to come to an agreement as a whole about these topics. I noticed the author repeated various things throughout the text mainly talking about privilege. This is to get us thinking about privilege and how unfair it really is. These were the main points I pulled from the text.
"We aren't even able to come together as a community anymore and share are true real feelings without most likely being judged or harassed by somebody else."
ReplyDeleteThis really is a sad and true observation. The state of affairs in humanity has us at odds with one another, instead of united as one. We are very lucky to be taking part in these conversations and--vitally--lucky that we have the opportunity to share these messages with our students. We may not be happy with the way things are, but we can leverage our situations to make things better down the line. Thank you for sharing!
Hi Isabella. I love when you say we all need to accept people for who they are. That is the attitude that will help make a change in the world. The sad truth however is that there are people in power that exercise this power in a manner that is harmful to others. As Delpit talks about. The people in power do not even realize that they are the people of privilege.
